The Graduate Program in Veterinary Hygiene and Technological Processing of POAO (PPGHIGVET) of the Veterinary Medicine School of the Fluminense Federal University (UFF) was created in 1974, initially offering the Master’s course. In 2000, the program was expanded with the implementation of the Doctorate course,
consolidating its academic and scientific achievement in the area.

Since its foundation, PPGHIGVET has stood out as the only graduate program in Brazil dedicated exclusively to the hygienic-sanitary and technological study of products ofanimal origin. This area of activity benefits from an interdisciplinary approach that integrates different fields of Veterinary Medicine, contributing to innovative and
sustainable solutions in response to municipal, regional, and national demands.

Throughout its history, the program has aligned its research with sector priorities, covering the development of recent technologies, the promotion of One Health, and the strengthening of sustainable development. These initiatives reinforce PPGHIGVET‘s commitment to academic excellence, social impact, and the training of highly qualified professionals to work in research centers, universities, companies, and specialized services.

Currently, the program has a score of 5 in the Brazilian CAPES evaluation of Veterinary Medicine university courses. Offering Master’s and Doctorate degrees, PPGHIGVET seeks to prepare its students for academic life, promoting integration between teaching, research, and extension. In its 50 years of existence, the program has consolidated itself as a national reference, reaffirming its strategic role in advancing knowledge and improving the quality of products of animal origin in Brazil.
